Now’s the time for my redemption
The time for me to relieve affliction.
I understand my precarious position;
One false step and it’s complete submission.
There’s only a limited chance for re-admission;
This dance won’t last with substitutions.
And once my efforts come to fruition,
I know I’ll finally have some affirmation.
But until I reach that worthy mantle
To grasp my hands around the wondrous title,
I’ll need to push myself to not be idle
To not give up and whine like a child.
I’ll do, without complaint, that extra mile;
I’ll accept and use the dirty towel.
I refuse to fall behind and become expendable
And eventually fall to the back end of the table.
So for this short period I have, this narrow window of time
You won’t find me outside ringing the chime.
I’ll bust my way in, fighting my crime
To allow myself to be the best and shine.
I’ll blow away the competition, reduce them to grime
Because you’ve never seen such a specimen so fine.
So now I take flight and begin to sublime
For at the end of the line awaits me my bottle of wine.

This wasn’t as easy as it seemed when I started out, lol. I’m aware the second stanza doesn’t exactly work out the way I wanted, but close enough.
